Newport Sea Base has a rich history of serving youth from greater Orange County and beyond. For over 83 years, the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, has provided the community with the Sea Base as a learning center, a refuge, a home, to youth as a means to not only get on the water and learn maritime skills but to gain leadership skills and build character.

The Sea Base is seeking to raise a $10 million endowment in order to sustain operations and, in particular, keep pace with maintenance and capital needs in its harsh salt water environment. Dredging and dock repairs alone will cost upwards of $750,000 to $1,000,000, and though these figures are large, it is vital that our docks are safe and we have water depth to dock many of our 140+ vessels. Serving 6,500 youth annually also takes a toll on infrastructure and equipment. Being able to replace equipment when needed, versus putting a bandage over bandage, would allow our staff to focus more time and energy on quality programming.
