Citizenship in the Community

 

NOTE: These dates are spread over two months.
Prerequisite: Requirement 3a and be prepared for 3b. (Enrollment in 1st Meeting automatically enrolls student in all 3 meetings.) RECOMMENDED FOR YOUTH AGES 13 AND UP.

Eagle Scout Package

 

Earn Personal Fitness, Personal Management & Family Life!  These dates are mandatory. (Please do not enroll if you expect to be unavailable for any of them. There will be no makeup days/assignments to compensate for missed classes. Scouts will be expected to participate in all aspects of class, even if they have already earned the corresponding badge.)

RECOMMENDED FOR YOUTH AGES 13 AND UP.

First Aid

Have fun learning how and when to perform first aid and CPR, as well as how to keep yourself and others safe.

 

Ages: 11 - 17

SPRING: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Emergency Preparedness

Learn safety principles, emergency management, and appropriate preparation for yourself and your home in this hands-on course. What you learn in this class will better prepare you and your family to overcome the challenges of emergency situations. Prerequisite: Bring proof that you have earned the First Aid Merit Badge. 

 

Ages: 11 - 17
Fee: $95

SPRING: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Fish and Wildlife Management

 

Construct a bird feeder and record its activity. Travel by pontoon boat to the Back Bay and find 25 species of wildlife on a scavenger hunt. Investigate the contents in a fish's stomach.

Environmental Science 

 

Travel by boat to the Back Bay Science Center to explore the habitats of Upper Newport Bay. Study the natural environment. Conduct experiments to see how living things respond to changes in their environment and how human activity affects habitats.

Oceanography 

 

Study the ocean's environment and its creatures. Dissect a shark. Participate in a plankton tow to study the food chain in Newport Harbor, and visit Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve.

Woodworking

 

Practice using hand and power tools as you build four projects including a boat. Learn about the various types of wood and the type to use for each project. Boy Scout Prerequisite: Bring in your Totin' Chip Card (Req. 1C).

Citizenship in the Nation

 

Discover how national decisions affect you, your family and the community.  Learn about the history and functions of the federal government. Find out how to become an active participant in the life of the nation and how to voice your opinion to your representatives.  RECOMMENDED FOR YOUTH AGES 13+ AND UP.

Citizenship in the World

 

Compare the rights and obligations of citizens of various countries, contrast international law with national law; analyze different styles of government and learn how international cooperation is vital to economic well being. Study world events in relation to security, health, values, geography, natural resources and climate. RECOMMENDED FOR YOUTH AGES 13 AND UP.
